Extraordinary, early Biedermeier / Empire Chest, Commode or Half-cabinet from Austria around 1815.
- Beautiful book-matched dark walnut veneer on softwood.
- Two doors at the bottom, counter-veneered in cherry wood on the inside. Inside an interior made later and removable if required.
- Original locks and large wrought-iron latches.
- Two drawers. Upper drawer with interior fittings and sliding board in cherry wood.
- Original brass fittings with floral motif.
- An old gilded egg-and-dart rail around the cornice.
- Two ebonized pilaster columns with old gilded sphinxes as caryatids.
- Ebonized trims and upper edge.
- Restored condition, hand-polished with shellac.
