Extraordinary, early Biedermeier / Empire Chest, Commode or Half-cabinet from Austria around 1815.

  • Beautiful book-matched dark walnut veneer on softwood.
  • Two doors at the bottom, counter-veneered in cherry wood on the inside. Inside an interior made later and removable if required. 
  • Original locks and large wrought-iron latches.
  • Two drawers. Upper drawer with interior fittings and sliding board in cherry wood. 
  • Original brass fittings with floral motif. 
  • An old gilded egg-and-dart rail around the cornice.
  • Two ebonized pilaster columns with old gilded sphinxes as caryatids.
  • Ebonized trims and upper edge.
  • Restored condition, hand-polished with shellac.
