Description:
Beautiful set of six rare neoclassical Biedermeier board chairs from Vienna/Austria, circa 1830.
Wonderful bright and friendly cherry veneer and solid wood. Elaborately hand-polished with shellac (French polished).
Very nice book-matched cherry veneer on the shovels. Lovely long and elegantly curved, conical legs. Refinished condition, very stabile with old mesh, greatly preserved. The edge of the shovels have been ebonized and polished.
As there is no seat cushion, but a board, the legs are higher than with other chairs, making it look very unusual, but still lovely balanced. A lay on cushion on top could be used for a more comfortable seating.
This model was typical for the Biedermeier Period in Austria. Vienna back then was the capital of neoclassical carpenter workmanship in Europe. Finding a set of 6 identical and original chairs in such condition is very rare.
