BM-TI-488 Biedermeier Expandable Dining Table, Walnut, Brass, Switzerland, circa 1820

Description

Large, Swiss, early Biedermeier expandable / extending table in walnut, circa 1820. 

  • Round table with solid walnut top and legs and walnut veneered apron.
  • Extendable in the middle with a total of 4 inlay plates / leaves of 60 cm / 23.6″ each in walnut veneer, added later. One of the leaves has an apron on the sides.
  • 2 additional supporting legs in the middle. Old brass sabots with castor rolls are attached to all six legs, allowing the table to be moved easily.
  • Original pull-out mechanism in solid beech wood. Recessed grips underneath the plate for easier pull-out extension.
  • Brass hinges at the bottom of the platmes ensure better cohesion. 
  • Expandable in 5 different lengths. When fully extended (all 4 extension leaves / plates), the table offers seating for up to 14 people.
  • Old restored condition with minor signs of wear.
