BM-SE-117 Biedermeier Roll-Top Desk, Cherry Veneer, Ink, South Germany circa 1820

Description

High-quality early Biedermeier roll-top desk or cylinder secretaire / writing cabinet from South Germany around 1820.

  • Very thick cherrywood saw veneer on softwood and solid cherrywood.
  • Ebonized strips and decorative elements. At the top a circumferential railing with ebonized rungs.
  • Large ink painting in the center of the roll flap and original painting around the fittings and edges.
  • Below two drawers with great original brass fittings depicting finely worked faces.
  • In the lower drawer is a large double locking box lock for both drawers.
  • Pull-out writing tablet covered with black genuine leather (added later).
  • Conservationally restored, hand-polished with shellac.
