Description
High quality early Biedermeier writing cabinet, secretaire or secretary desk from Austria around 1820.
- Walnut veneered on hardwood (walnut and mahogany). Partly ebonized and details veneered in mahogany.
- At the front two carved paw feet with old patinated gilding and ebonization.
- At the back two carved egg-shaped feet in solid walnut.
- Three large drawers with inlet locks at the bottom and a top drawer at the top, all made in walnut and mahogany.
- Two ebonized full columns with brass (or bronze?) capitals and bases.
- Very thick flap with double lockable inlet brass lock. Writing surface covered with new black genuine leather.
- Two original, elaborately crafted iron keys.
- Inside with 9 small drawers, front in maple with brass rings.
- Two open compartments. Underneath a wide, black-stained compartment.
- Secret hiding place.
