Regensburg was founded in 179 AD as the Roman legionary camp Castra Regina (camp on the river Regen) by Emperor Marcus Aurelius.

As the ‘northernmost city in Italy’ and its patrician towers, Regensburg also has a very special flair and the small alleyways, parks, cafés and restaurants invite you to explore and linger. Regensburg is famous with tourists worldwide and lies on the Danube on the popular shipping route further to Passau, Vienna and Budapest.

Our Showroom is located at the Watmarkt 3, right in the heart of Regensburg’s old town, only about 200 meters / 650 feet away from the Regensburg Cathedral and the Stone Bridge.

Directions

The COLONEUM extends over two buildings at Watmarkt 3 and 5 in the city’s antique district. Cloths used to be traded at the Watmarkt. Above the entrance of the Art Nouveau house from 1902 there is a bay window with a patrician couple sculpted in stone, which shows the rich history of the medieval town. “The master of the house stretches out the family’s trading book to the viewer, the lady holds a flower in her hand.” (Mittelbayerische Zeitung, February 7, 2023) In the Middle Ages, the house of Margarete Runtinger’s merchant family stood on the site of the current showroom house.

In 1902 the medieval Betzingerhaus (Watmarkt 3 / F21), which was adjacent to the Goliathhaus to the west, was demolished. A new building was built, whereby the south facade on the Watmarkt was partially preserved. There, instead of a baroque oriel, a two-storey oriel in the Neo-Renaissance style was built.
