Description

Elegant Art Nouveau / Jugendstil bentwood rocking chair, probably from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, circa 1900.

  • Manufacturer: Gebrüder Thonet, Vienna (attributed, unmarked).
  • Model: Rocking Armchair No. 4 (1886 catalogue).
  • Bent beechwood, dark-stained and polished to a satin gloss.
  • Two overlapping circular bentwood rings on each side, with scrolled ends to the back supports.
  • Old Viennese cane weaving (rattan) in good condition.
  • Restored condition with minor wear and signs of use to the wood.
