BM-SO-216 Late Biedermeier Box, Walnut on Oak, Inlay, South Germany circa 1850

Description

Large, high-quality late Biedermeier box in walnut with precious wood inlay and inlaid lid motif. From South Germany circa 1850.

  • Walnut veneered on maple and solid with numerous inlays in precious woods, maple, and ebony.
  • On the top of the lid is an oval motif of an inlaid peasant couple in dyed wood and a large ebony background. 
  • Inlaid brass key crest, a black knob with a white dot on the lid. Working iron lock, brass hinges, and chain.
  • Restored condition with shellac hand-polish.
